So I’m a huge science fiction fan, in fact I can clearly blame my parents for it. I remember when I was little watching Patrick Stewart become a borg on Star Trek, and that was the original airing, not a re-run. Tuesday, Stargate SG1’s final season came out on DVD, and I decided I wanted to pick it up, as I find myself becoming a box-set fiend, picking up DVD seasons and box sets when possible. While I’ve seen the episodes before, it’s nice to sit down during a slow weekend and watch episode after episode while I program or clean.
Anyways, as I was picking up the dvd box set from Best Buy, there was a sticker on the plastic wrapping that indicated that the trailer for the upcoming direct-to-dvd movie “Stargate SG1: The Ark of Truth” was included. So like a anxious fanboy I opened up the set when I got home and started looking through the dvds for the special feature, but to my surprise it was no where to be found. Infact after doing some research on the internet I found that the trailer was infact a clipshow from the 9th and 10th seasons put together at the beginning of disc 1, and contained no actual footage from the movie.
Do you have an idea how irritating it is to waste so much time over a misleading sticker? Who puts the words trailer on something like that? I’m not sure I would even call that a teaser, let a lone a trailer. I imagine many other fanboys like myself will experience the similar frustration over it.
But what do you do? Aside from this small rant, I dont expect much to come from this, but maybe the next time someone proofs the packaging to take a little time and examine the details.
“Trailer” aside, season 10 was the unfortunate end to an excellent sci-fi series that aired for 10 years and was cut short long before it was dead. While the last two seasons have not been your Richard Dean Anderson’s SG1, it has continued to bring new elements to play and kept viewers wanting more.
While SG1 is officially canceled, two movies are slated (The Ark of Truth currently in production), and the spin off Stargate Atlantis is proving to be successful (and should allow for guest appearances by SG1 cast for years to come).
